About Us

Our story

In late 2024 Steve Redgwell, who has lived with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) since December 2018 and his friend Liane Iles decided that there a was failing in care, support, guidance and help for those individuals living with MND and their families.

Steve is experiencing first hand the challenges and support for those living with MND and in simple terms, it’s just not good enough!

We need to improve the care, advice, guidance and information sufferers get to help ease anxiety, improve support and give clarity in order to grow confidence on everyday challenges for people living with MND face.

Liane in her role as the CEO of Challenging MND had also seen the struggle of those afflicted by the disease. Many people across the UK aren’t currently able to access this specialised gold standard care and advice, so Liane and Steve came together with the idea of setting up a charity to change this and take that vital step forward.

Together they have over 70 years of experience in the UK and International insurance markets. Over the last few years this Industry has been incredibly supportive in helping fund the change required to support people living with MND.

Their generosity has been overwhelming, with the UK market supporting both Steve’s and others’ various fundraising initiatives.

Encouraged by this show of support Steve has already had agreement of offers for ongoing funding for this new initiative from PIB Group, AON, Ardonagh and McGill, which has catalysed the creation of a new charity : – Motor Neurone Disease Foundation ( MNDF).

We are delighted and proud that this Foundation received approval from the Charity Commission in May 2025 and we are now excited to begin our work to bring the changes needed to help improve the lives of those living with MND from diagnosis to end of life.

Following our approval we have calculated we will need funds of around £450,000 per annum for the first 3 years rising to £650,000 thereafter to ensure our commitments become reality as we help improve the lives of individuals and families living with MND whilst funding critical research to help find a cure for this brutal disease.
The improvement can be simplified into three main pillars of :Research, Care & Support and Guidance/Information.
